Description15" x 10" image area. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with vellum overlay. DC Comics Presents #90 Page 4 FINAL APPEARANCE OF ORIGINAL CAPTAIN ATOM original art (DC, February 1986). Denys Cowan and Dave Hunt.Origin story page and a final appearance. The original look to Captain Atom that existed in continuity from the first Charlton Comics origin to this issue ends with this story. Captain Atom would later resurface with a different look but this wonderful Charlton-era character would never again sport that classic style. Social/Sharing |

Cowan & Hunt make a formidable team. Love that panel 3-4 especially!

Nice origin retold! The perpendicular camera angle change and the panel design is nice too.

Okay, the Charlton version of Captain Atom is cool enough to see. But the bottom half also offers most of his origin being retold while the top half offers a great transformation sequence with a fantastic money shot. Finally, it's also an example of early career Denys Cowan. This is fantastic and the most fun of all the pages posted to CAF today. Congrats, John!

Man, that red Kirby Krackle in the published image really pops. This is an amazing page, for all the reasons Rubén said. Cowyn must have understood the import of the final page with the Ditko Design, and just packed it with treats for the reader. And that rocket sequence is stellar visual storytelling. Super cool page. Congrats!

Many thanks!! What's more fitting for Atom Man's final appearance than to "go out with a bang"? :D
