DescriptionJune 1974, Fantastic Four #147, Page #11, Rich Buckler pencils/Joe Sinnott inks, “The Sub-Mariner Strikes”,A great battle page between the Mighty Sub-Mariner vs: The Human Torch! In one of the great soap opera storylines of the Bronze Age, Sue Storm serves heart-broken Reed with divorce papers, and then she moves in with the Sub-Mariner. The Sub-Mariner has declared war on the surface world as vengeance for what Mister Fantastic has done to Sue and their son, Franklin. The Fantastic Four springs into action to fight Namor and his band of sea monsters! Namor and his army, with the Invisible Woman by his side attacks New York, in order to defeat Mr. Fantastic and the Fantastic Four. After a long battle between all of them, Sue realizes that she still loves Reed and the two lovers get back together. The reconciliation between Sue and Reed, ended a long separation. Sue Storm left her husband, Reed Richards, at the end of issue #130, almost 20 issues ago. Also, Sue did not return as an active member of the Fantastic Four until issue #159. Medusa actually took Sue's place on the Fantastic Four from FF #131 to #159. Social/Sharing |

Human Torch vs. Sub-Mariner battles have been a staple of the Marvel Universe since well before it was the Marvel Univese, and this page is a one of the greats. The Fantastic Four had already been cemented as one of the greatest, and most significant superhero comics ever, and this scene does nothing to hurt and plenty to help that stature. Bravo, Nick! Another wonderful page!

Johnny is a lightweight compared to Namor's full intensity as he won't reach his Nova flame level quick enough to ward off a straight punch.

Sue would of had half the Baxter Building in the divorce settlement. Reed had to take her back. Cheaper to keep her.
