Description

Charles H. Winner (known as �Doc�) was an American comic artist who created the newspaper gag-a-day comic 'Tubby' (1923-1926), later remodeled and retitled as 'Elmer' (1926-1956). While the main character�s mother names him 'Chester', everyone else calls him 'Tubby'. Tubby was often depicted hanging out with his friends and a little dog. By the second series, the lead�s name becomes Elmer Tuggle, but the characters and gags otherwise stay pretty much the same.

In this Sunday strip, Elmer apparently is getting into a fight with another boy over who will take a girl to a party. When Elmer wins, the gag twist reveals the loser actually had to escort the girl to the party (obviously at the risk of cooties). Doc Winner has signed in the last panel.

Ahh, simpler days. These two remind me of the vultures from the animated Jungle Book.
