This page is from volume 3 of Curt Merlo's Gunk, which is packed full of classic pulpy goodness. Curt used gesso, ink, and watercolor on a 10 x 10 Bristol board. This lifeguard from the black lagoon is the exact type of art I love to see: a fun interpretation of a horror icon!

It's drawn in that manner on an aged up board to reflect the B-movie style of illustration during the 1950's. Love that life preserver circle used like a picture frame. It is similar to the radiating waves of the art's outer edges.
