DescriptionGreetings from the Baltimore Comic Con (9/24), Don Rosa kindly continued my art project again :-)By drawing Scrooge's "Currency Market View" portraits, how old miser is thinking about our Fiat money. Let's not forget that Scrooge is following currencies very carefully, of course ;-) This art project started already in 2018 when I was thinking about a "holy triptych" from USD, EUR & JPY, but then extended the idea a bit when repeatedly visited again in BCCs. And now something completely different... no more Fiat money but the real thing: Daric! Now we are time traveling back to the Achaemenid Empire aka First Persian Empire ;-) The oldest known gold coin is the Persian Daric, which was created around 520 – 480 BCE in the Achaemenid Persian Empire. This coin was introduced by Darius I, the third Persian Emperor, as part of a reformed currency system, featuring thick gold coins with a standard weight of 8.4 grams and a gold purity of about 95.83%. If you are looking carefully at Scrooge's hat... yep! It looks very familiar to Carl Barks fans! :-) It is from the Four Color #275 "Donald Duck in Ancient Persia". Scrooge didn't appear in the story, and once the whole royal family disappeared (literally!) in the story, there wasn't much possibilities for Don Rosa to make any direct sequel of the Ancient Persia story, so this Scrooge with king's crown is now the closest one can get ;-) This drawing is done on A3 size paper (30 x 42 cm, 11.7 x 16.5 inches), so it is about twice the size of what normal convention sketches are done (typically in comic book backboards). Liquid gold marker is for sure the best one for this kind of artwork. # DonRosa; #ScroogeMcDuck Social/Sharing |
