DescriptionContinuing the Black Panther adds with my first Skottie Young piece! Variant cover art for the second issue of the current volume.I’ve always enjoyed the fun, charm, and humor in Skottie’s stuff. Pair that with his unique stylization and you got some great OA. But I had never pulled the trigger as I thought, for many of his pieces, there just wasn’t a ton of actual art on the board. At least for the price. Doesn’t mean I didn’t like ‘em, just that I would usually find somewhere else to put the dollars as I thought I was getting more bang for my buck in terms of the sheer amount of ink on the page. And I could make that case here. BUT I saw this cover image in the Marvel solicits and immediately loved it. It was time to pull that trigger. Of course, being a big BP fan is part of it, but I just really liked how he exhibited the playful nature of a cat with those bounding jumps. And you got BP moving closer with every leap :) So, I reached out via Skottie’s site and was told it would be coming up for sale in the next few months on a drop. So I waited…and when I got the drop e-mail I was all over it, waiting for that website to update. I had decided that if it was posted at or below a certain price, I was gonna do it. It was, and I did! Got in right away and crossed my fingers. I think like 80+% of the pieces in the drop sold in the first few minutes, including the variant cover he did for BP issue #1. But this was the one - the only one I was going for. So I was relieved and happy when I got the e-mail confirming ‘twas mine! Enjoy the exuberance! Social/Sharing |

Why do I get the feeling that Calvin is actually in the suit and he is mimicking Hobbes. Those long summer days are coming.

I can't believe I didn't think of the C&H connection - it's RIGHT there, lol. Another reason to like the piece, as it ain't hard at all to imagine Calvin in the suit :) Thanks, John, and all, for the comments!

Wonderful, K! A Scottie Young piece! And a great first piece it is, too! I had to laugh when I read John C's great comment (I was thinking the same thing!)... How much fun would it be to make an additional image that takes some Hobbes images and mixes them in with this one to show the two of them wrasslin'? You could take bets on which would win! Will it be Hobbes that makes T'Challa hollah? Will the Panther beat the stuffing out of Hobbes? Who will win?!!? (Answer: "The Fans.")
A really fun and super piece that gives you five Skottie Panther images in one. Fantastic pick up, K G! Love this!

Love yours, too, man! And yeah, we share the same thoughts around Skottie's work for sure. Glad to be part of the very exclusive Young BP cover club - mayhaps we'll meet the others! I know there's at least 3 other BP covers he did. Thanks for the add, man!

Very, very cool man. Skottie's stuff is reminding me more and more of Bill Watterson, espeically in this piece. Awesome pick up man.

Oh this is so cute!! I love that last pose with the claws out. I definitely love the exuberance here, and what a purr-fect cover for your collection. Really happy the stars aligned for you with this one.

What If Hobbs was the Black Pather? I really like how he forwent the edges of the costume, giving him a fun and cartoony real feline feel (hence my first comment :)). My thinking was like yours, but I may have to just get one anyway, because I love his style, even if it can be stark. The action sequence is fantastic, too. Very cool, Kahlil. Congrats!
