Description‘Tis here. And ‘tis glorious in person…https://giphy.com/gifs/WWE-wwe-wrestling-l0HU7yHIK6Nc3WcE0. You KNOW I let one of those out!I wasn’t in the market for a Ross piece. But I’ve always loved this one. IMO Ross’s best Black Panther cover, from his 15-issue run as volume 8 main cover artist, or otherwise. No bias, too. Sure :) And Matt Ditullio had it on his first CAF live sale show with Bill. I joined late, but it was there behind him. Eyes widened and heartbeat quickened. Decided to make that offer in the last minutes of the show as it was the last piece in the recap…and Matt accepted and gave me some time to get it paid in full. MUCH, appreciated, man. And my fellow CAFers at that night’s show – appreciate your many live congratulations! And also appreciate your comments in pushing Matt to make the deal :) On to the art! All starts with T’Challa. My fave BP look...the original costume with the necklace adornment added. And one of my new favorite things as many of y’all know…the mask forming over. That really sealed it for me. Lookin’ large and in charge and ready to throw down. And check out Storm to his right. Imposing and strong while also elegant and beautiful. With the mohawk. Throwback ‘80s looks brought back and I love the curly textures rendered. Also got Shuri to T’Challa’s right…the no nonsense expression, and the detail on her rows and bun. We also got Okoye, Omolola, and Aneka and Ayo in their Midnight Angel armor. A full cast in Ross color renderings! I’ve pored over the sublime brush strokes lots. Lastly, the element of having the horizontal lines of white go through the legs paired with the slight perspective turn…subtly adds that upped graphic design factor. This shalt be making it to the framers soon! See published image additional images, as well as the TPB cover – no surprise at all why it was chosen for the latter :) Thanks for looking all, and thanks, Matt and Bill! https://www.icegif.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/icegif-993.gif Social/Sharing |

Having the lineup askew seems like a simple and inconsequential idea, but it makes such a profound difference to the overall image.

Oh MAN, this is next level awesomeness. An Alex Ross cover is a coup in itself, but getting one this beautiful, and one that fits your collection so perfectly, well ... that's just tremendous. I love everything about this one. Major major congrats, K!

Congrats! My favorite part is how Black Panther's mask is forming around his face, followed closely by Storm's hair!

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black
Why you better see bright covers sold by Matt
And why Ross in appearance seem to have the color tones
Well, there's a reason for the paints that I have shown
I wear the black when the Dora Milaje found
Livin' for the princess Shuri shines around
I swear it 'cause of T'Challa who I've long paid for in time
And is here because I love the Panther in my mind
I wear the black for those who've never read
Or happened upon works that Alex did
About the road to happiness through love and Jack Kirby
Why, you'd think he's talking straight to you Stan Lee
Well, we're doin' mighty fine, Okoye knows
In Storm's streak of lightnin' art on fancy clothes
But Ayo we're reminded of that Aneka's held back
Up front there Omolola, Panther Black

That third verse, man, perfecto! Got me, Alex, Jack, and Stan in there...who doesn't belong?! :)
Thanks, Marcus, and all, for the comments! This one's a biggie.

Superb. Adding an Alex Ross (-any- Alex Ross!) to one's collection is a huge milestone, but when the piece is such an exact fit to the collector and collection, it is an occasion for -massive- celebration. Ross is, of course, a master of lighting, color, and composition, and he brings his A-game here. A gorgeous backdrop of perfectly chosen color pops out the stunning assemblage; all power and regality. The tilted camera angle allows for a really compelling POV (and for the cast to take up the most space available on the page). The streams of yellow light across the image evokes a great "sunrise" effect, like a misty morning dawn in Wakanda, where the royal family is going to bring all their focus to bear on a problem... and you'd better not be looking for trouble. A noble and powerful depiction of our heroes, and Alex's legendary photo-realism elevates this into the heavens. Such a powerful image!!
CONGRATULATIONS, Kahlil, on locking down this treasure. You pulled out all the stops to make this happen, and you should bask in this indelible moment of triumph. :) FANTASTIC piece - MEGA-congrats, K!

I'll have to share in person soon! Solid image I posted but doesn't hold a candle to in-person viewing. Exhibition? Mayhaps! But needs to stay with daddy for awhile :) NO doubt this one's gettin' framed! Thanks, Paul!

Thanks, man! I wasn't really in the market for a Ross, but loved this image from when it was first solicited, and when I saw it for sale that night, out of the blue, at a solid price...yeah :) One of his best covers IMO, let alone one of his best BP covers. Had to move some pieces to make it happen but ZERO regrets!

Having read your description ( I’ve pored over the sublime brush strokes lots. ) You may need a bib or dribble guard. Poring over art can damage it...Americans don't spell pouring as poring? Lol

Lol, well "pore over" and "pour over" are 2 different things but, to your point, might as well be same in this case! Thanks for the add, Peter!

Theres a funny article I read years ago where John Bolton was telling a interviewer to stop spitting on his artwork. Excitement can cause dribbling and worse.

Incredible Alex Ross Black Panther cover! I don't love all of Ross' paintings, but this one is sublime! T'Challa looks terrific here, Ross captures his physique perfectly and gives him a powerful pose. Standing next to him is Storm, with her Mohawk hairstyle, looking strong and fierce. Around them stand his sister, Princess Shuri and a number of other female warrrors. It's a great group portrait and reminds me of the phrase, "It takes a village..." Here is T'Challa and Shuri's village of supporters standing ready to help in whatever way they can. Fabulous pick-up, congrats.
