DescriptionAfter Flash has found Walton in the snow in the last page, he tries to wake him up and have him stand in the first panel so they can escape their predicament. You can tell from the Flash’s stance that he is no good shape himself. Then something big happens in the second splashy panel! From all the swirling smoke and wind, you can tell a huge force is blowing against them. From both the brilliant use of light source by Lightle and the defensive stance of the two characters, you can tell they are blinded by the intensity of the light they are witnessing. I find it really amazing that Lightle managed to give such a visual sense of blinding intensity within the artistic parameters he chose for that story, i.e. an already very high contrast chiaroscuro of black and white. In the next two panels, the intensity builds even more as we close up of the Flash and Walton as it appears they are going to be wiped out by that force. Then in the fifth panel, it’s gone and they don’t have to struggle anymore. The last two see the two characters truly puzzled as to what it is they’ve just experienced. In that regard the before last open panel is fantastic as the contrast of the white silhouettes against the deep black really enhances that sentiment for one and second, the delineation of the ground they stand on leads the way to the right to help the reader turn the page. Just another great page in a series of great ones. Social/Sharing |

What happened to the mysterious force!? The lighting in that 2nd splashy panel is really fantastic as you pointed out in your write up. And the intensity of the next few panels as it draws even closer to me is the highlight of the page. Another great page from the complete issue!

Wow, a complete story by one of my favorite under rated artists of his time. That is so awesome.

Stunning Lightle Flash page! But, then all his pages were exceptional. Very underrated artist gone way too soon.

Well timed with the sherpa breaking the record for most climbs of Mount Everest making the news. Lots of icy cold air currents sapping the strength out of Flash and Walton. Lightle makes sure to have the solid ink backgrounds to make a bigger chill in the page where the Sun can't penetrate.

The whole page is nice, of course, but panels 3 and 4 are my favourite ones, followed by the splashy panel.

The only issue that I have with Lightle's art is that there isn't more of it. He was a master of the craft.
