Description

Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko Amazing Spider-Man #8 Splash Page 1 "Spider-Man Tackles the Torch" Original Art (Marvel, 1964). Let the trumpets blare, and the banners wave.
In this masterpiece, a spiteful Spider-Man drops in to date Dorrie Evans, the Human Torch's high school sweetheart. This early crossover tale spotlighted an all-star team-up - not just webhead and hothead, but also three of the House of Ideas' most important architects, Stan "The Man" Lee, Jack "King" Kirby and "Sturdy" Steve Ditko. Throw a 1963 Sting Ray into the scene and - this splash is a swinging' sixties sensation. 'Nuff said. The page has an image area of 12" x 18", and the art is in Excellent condition.

Oh boy!  How do I enter to win this?  This is one of my favorites when I was reading the Marvel Tales reprints of old Spidey stories as it was a big rivalry issue with Spidey and Torch and also Peter vs Flash.  The Torch is the rich hot shot that Spidey wants to take down a peg or two.  Ditko and Lee knows what their targeted audience is thinking and plays it up in this twice up beauty that's one of the foundations of the house of ideas!

ASM 1-38 and the Ditko Annuals are burned in my childhood brain as the be all and end all of comic book perfection. Bravo!

Ha ha.

After posting a lot of my art, I did not understand that most would consider me bragging. I am not. I just havn't ever sold a piece of art. I traded some pieces, but never sold. I mostly buy and sell comics. Since I am old, Kirby was the only artist I was interested in, so I have some pieces that I bought before the market went nuts.

Thanks for your comments,

Bob

Sometimes you see a piece of art on CAF that makes your jaw drop and you just sit and stare in awe.  And then stare some more.  This is one of those times.

I bought this piece of art for 2 reasons: One, I wanted a Kirby/Ditko Spider-man; Two, I always wanted a 65 Corvette, but never had the money. Now I can buy one in exchange for this piece.

Ha Ha.

Sorry, this was the quote used before bidding started. I just pinched it from Heritage.

I've waited a long time to see this splash transfer from CE via HA and now here on Robert's gallery. It's  a remarkable spash from 1963 and on large sized board. What a juggling act Peter and Johnny have to maintain. One minute saving us from danger, the next duking it out like hot head juvenile delinquents boiling over in this classic rivalry. It simply doesn't get any better than this. I've loved this ASM 8 issue and this six page story in particular for so long. Very glad you did what you had to do to get this one in the gallery. Excelsior !!!
