Description

I saw this unpublished Avengers #37 Cover by Don Heck at the outstanding Society for Illustrators exhibition last Summer in NY city curated by Rob Pistella. It was much nicer in person than I anticipated from scans. It is twice up and was proposed for the story "To Conquer a Colossus," but Gil Kane took over as the artist for Avengers around that issue and was not used. Pleased to get it now from Mike Burkey.

I loved Heck's Avengers and his inks over his own pencils look wonderful on this dynamic piece. Bravo!

A doozy and a dandy! This was in the thick of the Marvel Universe being constructed and an artifact from this large art era has become increasingly hard to find.

I've admired this art for years, too! I have a page from this issue (also all Heck), but the cover is another level entirely. Swapping out this art for Gil Kane's version still seems nutty to me.
