DescriptionI've been a fan of Jorge Fornes since seeing his art in Batman #66. His art dropped and sold out almost instantly. I was crestfallen so made it a point to keep tabs on his output. When I saw him post a sneak peak of this page I immediately reached out to him and his people. After over three months of touching base and checking in...I was able to secure the page! Seeing Batman in that stance immediately brings to mind the Batman Year One. I'll never own a Mazzucchelli Year One, however, this page makes me equally happy! An amazing splash page from a wonderful issue which collects Alfred's daily journal entries -) chronicles of Batman's heroism and absolute devotion to protecting Gotham. Jorge Fornes is the perfect artist for this issue...flawless storytelling and pacing. By eliminating the superfluous he leaves us with only the essential lines. His art is a feast for the eyes, but you're never overwhelmed. The splash page shows Batman assessing a murder scene and immediately brings to mind Mazzucchelli, and therefore Toth. The influence is unmistakable and he transcends both with this brilliant point of view vantage. Page also place second in CAF Best of 2019 :: Published: Splash Pages, Pinups And the issue won an Eisner award! So happy and honored to own this page. From Sept 2020 Hollywood Reporter interview with DC Comics writer Tom King: "Then Jorge and I did Batman Annual No. 4 together, and when I was getting the art back on that, my mind was blown. It was very similar to when I first got the Mitch pages back on Sheriff of Babylon No. 5, where it was like, "Oh, I'm working with a genius here." Suddenly you're like, "I can't let this go." Jorge and I had worked together before and I've always admired his art and thought he was brilliant, but in Annual No. 4, I saw this guy can hit another level." Here is my review of the issue: What a wonderful amuse-bouche! The art is spectacular! The story might have some hiccups, with horses on rooftops and Gotham missile defense systems. But I appreciate the writers whimsy and playfulness with the material and Fornes just takes the script and runs with it. Each page is a masterpiece! Everyone should do themselves a favor and find and feast upon this issue! Well done Social/Sharing |

Whenever I see blinds used in this way - I think of Steranko and simultaneously the film Blade Runner. Fabulous page! With a clean style and great sense of mood. Congrats!!

Ah, so you're the one that snatched up this page! Great pickup. This will probably go down as one of the greatest pages Jorge ever made. It's that good I feel comfortable saying it knowing he still has decades of his career still ahead of him.
