DescriptionPublished 1969The Three Lives of Superman! written by Jim Shooter Superman's psyche is transported back into the past to relive previous incarnations and Jimmy tags along as an observer. In his first incarnation Superman is Erok, Krypton's mightiest conqueror, and Jimmy observes him riding an olifont, an ancient Kyptonian beast. I really like that top panel and I was a big fan of the Silver Age DC comics so I was happy to get this example from a Jimmy Olsen comic. This is also the only art I own by Pete Costanza (1913-1984), who is best known for his work on Fawcett Comics' Captain Marvel and the Marvel Family during the World War II era. After Fawcett stopped publishing super-hero comics, Costanza work for Classics Illustrated, Charlton and DC, retiring in 1971 after suffering a stroke. Social/Sharing |

Ride must be out, or I'd pick olifont
Where could I be? Believe it's Krypton, I'm not home

Amazing page! Love the bottom panel that has a real John Carter of Mars vibe to it!

nice page!!! both the bottom panel and top panel look really nice. My vague recollection of Costanza's work was of his Fawcett stuff so thanks for the history/knowledge as well. I wanted to say something snarky/sarcastic but Marcus beat me to the Seinfeld reference/joke and I can't top that

A very nice page. Costanza seemed to have adapted his style from the cartoonier Captain Marvel material to draw this in a more mainstream superhero style of the time, quite reminiscent of Murphy Anderson's work, in my eyes.
