Description

For me, the images created for the first volume of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe seemed iconic, as the best representation of each character. Baron Helmut Zemo was reintroduced in Captain America #275-278 (1982-1983) by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck. As Marvel did with many Cap-related characters, they asked Zeck to illustrate the definitive image of Zemo for the handbook, little knowing he would end up becoming one of Cap's greatest enemies, second only to the Red Skull. This looming pose could have easily been the one that inspired the 1984 Mattel Secret Wars action figure. Expertly inked by master Joe Rubinstein.
