DescriptionI love the symmetry of this page.Specifically, how the symmetrical storytelling alternates in an almost musical or lyrical way. There is a cinematic and intense quality here. Each panel illustrates a story beat that is almost accompanied by a Hans Zimmer style of booming base, growing in strength and ferocity as the page moves along and Cap realizes more and more the threat the three iterations of the same character- Iron Lad, Kang, and Immortus- pose together. The first two panels set up the page and the cool shot in the third one where Cap grips his shield tight in preparation for an assault. Then there's the shot in the final panel where the time travelers show rather than tell their story of traversing the timestream- Iron Lad holding a seed as the youngest, Kang holding the grown plant as the more mature, and Immortus holding the dead plant as the oldest iteration of the character. Yu shows so much of the story in his art alone. While I love pages that include their word balloons, sometimes more modern comics pages like this one can tell its story with the help of an awesome artist like Leinil Yu. Social/Sharing |

Cap's reaction is like the comic art buyers at the convention and finding out there's a third brother at the table.

First off, fantastic write up, Ryan! Great take on this beautiful page - definitely gives me great things to think about! I remember reading somewhere (in an old Comics Buyer's Guide?) a comment from Leinil where he said that his favorite thing to draw were faces; that he loved to invest most of his time and detail into them, and let the drama flow from there. Ever since reading that, I've been obsessed with his faces and you have the _perfect_ example of what he's talking about here. As simple portraits, they're sublime, but the storytelling that flows in this moment - with the Kang "family" calmly making their point while Cap takes further and further issue with it - is the crescendo that will pay off here in just a sec. As you say, VERY cinematic. Masterful manipulation of the moment from the killer team of Yu and Hickman. Great pick ups, pal! Fantastic adds to your growing collection - congrats!

This is stupendously good. The various incarnations of Kang look incredible.
