Description

Bond girl Valerie Leon (Never Say Never Again) starred in the 1971 Hammer horror film "Blood from the Mummy's Tomb." She played an archeologist's daughter possessed by the spirit of a lookalike ancient Egyptian queen, in a story based on Bram Stoker's 1903 novel "The Jewel of Seven Stars." Bruce Timm referenced publicity stills (see the additional images) from the film for this 9"x12" piece which became the back cover of British film magazine Little Shoppe of Horrors #24.

For extra geek connections: The 1976 Doctor Who episode "The Hand of Fear" was inspired by this film. In that story, Sarah Jane Smith discovers a mummified hand bearing a ring whose evil spirit possesses her, forcing her to help restore it to its own body. The being takes a form modeled on Sarah. Many Doctor Who episodes had Hammer homages during that era.

Wish Bruce had done a lot more color art for LSoH, and Valerie Leon is hubba-hubba! The bonus images are fascinating and apprreciated. Congrats on your score!

Beautiful! Interesting to see Timm's choices and where he made changes from the reference. I see so few examples from him based on photos or going for specific likenesses. The colors and atmospherics are great as well

I admit to having naughty thoughts about Valerie when I saw the film. From this, think Bruce might have had a naughty thought or two or three. Hell, hes had thousands.
