DescriptionI purchased this page directly from Jim Mooney back at one of the late 1990s SDCC shows. I bought it because it was from the first issue, and it prominently featured ASM fighting the villain and the alien costume.I had Jim autograph it, but GCD indicates that this is actually inked by Vince Colletta in an uncredited role. This is rather awkward and somewhat of a conundrum. If you consider that Marvel would give the person credited the 1/3 inker's share to wrong inker, then why did Jim receive the pages and then sign the page(s) as his own work? Most inkers will tell you up front when they did or did not ink certain pages. While GCD could be wrong, I use this as a resource to confirm the credits, and this one is darn enigmatic to write the least. Social/Sharing |

Wow, a page form Web #1! So cool, man! Fantastic to see this and brings up a well of memories, being the first ongoing Spidey title I was able to collect from the start! Thanks for finally posting it, Philip!

I think we talked about this at the LA show last year, but Jim Mooney was a supreme talent and one heck of a nice guy. This is a truly thrilling page. My memories of SDCC in the nineties was of Jim at a table with his art and usually no one around him. Crazy the access we had to major artists back then.

A bird in the hand is worth a lot more when the hand is wearing the black costume!

BONGG! BONGG! It's not often that you have historic onomatopoeia. The sonics are coming...And maybe it's not Mooney (doesn't quite look like Coletta to me, tho), but it's still a sweet, historic page. Love the double battle, too. Great page, Philip. Congrats!

Regardless of the inking conundrum, it's an outstanding page! Definitely one of the best from Web 1. All out black costume vs baddie aerial battle! And again, from Web 1! Great stuff, PR. Congrats!
