Description

In 1973 our comic shop in Berkeley, California put on the first Underground Comix Convention that was held on the UC Berkeley Campus -- I drew this cover illustration promoting the convention for the Bay Area PHOENIX paper... on one side you have the "normal" comics like Superman and Modesty Blaise, and on the other side you have Mr. Natural and all the underground comix! 1973... only 49 years ago... whew... / NOTE: I added a 2nd pic I took at the convention of S. Clay Wilson and Spain with my 3D Nimslo camera of them flipping the bird...

My first convention. i was nine years old. A dealer had the double splash to FF Annual 1.

Hi Glen -- I just added a 2nd pic I took at the convention of S. Clay Wilson and Spain flipping the bird, it's "blurry" because it was a 3D pic... and you were only 9 back then??

Yep. If this was the convention at Pauley Ballroom on Sproul Plaza, that was my first, and I would have been nine. I think Richard Kyle was there, but I wouldn't meet him for another 20 years.
