DescriptionBob Watts is a great architectural and aviation artist who has been teaching at his son Jeff Watts's Atelier in San Diego for quite a few years now. His knowledge and facility with composition, color, and value control is truly amazing. Here's a really cool gouache demonstration painting of a Science Fiction scene featuring a futuristic megastructure spanning a desert, with a couple tiny figures in the relative foreground for scale.I thought to post a couple pieces of Robert's to my CAF even though they're not strictly comic art when I saw a couple of his originals show up on Sean Gordon Murphy's wall in the background of a recent CAF video with Bill Cox. It's no surprise that SGM has good taste in art... Thanks for taking a look! Social/Sharing |

In the middle of the night
I'm commenting in my sleep
Future bridges of guoache
To the desert so deep
I must be looking for something
Driving hybrid I'm lost
But the Fastrak so high
And it's good Robert Watts
Even though I know being artless is fine
I look down every evening and I comment artmore
I try to cross to the opposite side
So Sean Gordon Murphy finds what I've been looking for

Very evocative landscape and architecture, which you can immediately build a story around!

The old and the new, the sacred and the sacrilegious, these paintings make a great pair.

This is absolutely fantastic. The colors and composition are fab and I really love the addition of the people, not only because it adds scale to the overall piece, but because as tiny as they were painted, theyre still immediately identifiable as people. With a bit more work to make it a finished piece, this could easily have been published as the cover to any Science Fiction paperback novel during the 1950's - 1970's.
