DescriptionI never really had any exposure to Pop's artwork until Spyboy came out, and to be honest my initial interest in that title came about because I'm a big fan of writer Peter David. I was happily surprised to find a great artist teamed up with PAD, making Spyboy a really great, fun and funny title, one that I wish was still being published on a regular basis. Spyboy himself was pretty cool, but I'm especially fond of his comely cohorts Bombshell and Spygirl. When Valentine's Day of 2003 rolled around, my wife asked what I wanted for a present (she naturally assumed I wanted art) and I told her I wanted a commission from Pop. We "negotiated" a price for it and I was going to get a 2-character greytone marker piece... then something came up that sucked away the $$. And it kept happening all year long! Every time we had the money for it, something came up - oh so frustrating! Finally, cut to Valentine's Day 2004 - I still didn't have my 2003 present and I had to select another year's present. Luckily I'd just received my tax refund on Feb. 13th, so not only did I rapidly send off the money for my 2004 commission (Leonard Kirk!), but I also contacted Pop to take care of '03. One good thing about the wait - Dennisse felt really guilty about me waiting so long, so she "upgraded" my present from greytone markers to an inkwash - wow! Pop got back in touch with me and hoped I didn't mind waiting at least a month for him to squeeze it in - I'd been waiting a year, what was another month going to do to me? Imagine my surprise when a mere 2-1/2 weeks later he emails me a scan of the completed artwork! I don't have the artwork in hand yet, but I wanted to get this beauty posted so I could show it off. I'm *extremely* happy! Pencil and ink wash on 11x14 Bristol (I think).Social/Sharing |

Pop was really happy with this one - he wants to use it in an upcoming Spyboy collection! Who am I to say no?
