Description

John has done an excellent job of capturing such a gut wrenching scene from James Harren's Ultramega book with this commission. The aftermath of a Kaiju fight is not a pretty one in the least, and he has successfully portrayed that with not only appropriate scale, but heartbreaking detail.

This commission came about when I saw that John was offering a free 5x7 sketch to anyone who could answer an easter egg question about his Frankenstein vs Mummy piece. I just happened to see that post at the right moment and the answer was one I knew immediately, “Ridley's Boots” aka Sigourney's Sneaks. Instead of a free sketch I asked if he would be willing to do an Ultramega commission. Turns out we were both fans of Ultramega, and this piece was the awesome end result.

If you are unfamiliar with John Mungiello's work he is an artist that is worth a follow. He is currently working on his first graphic novel by the name of “Crawler”. From the early glimpses of character design, it is definitely going to be a title worth picking up. Also if the online rumors are true, he and Yo Kuri are up to no good doing Hellboy art swaps with each other :)

This piece tells a full story beyond just what is seen and makes you think about their world and what they have to go through in the aftermath of an epic world breaking battle.
