It's coming.

The Ax is about to drop on us all.

With this piece, John Mungiello is properly serving up a taste of what is to come from Nick Pitarra's Ax-Wielder Jon, launching April 26th via comic crowdfunding platform Zoop.

I absolutely love the perspective that John has used here. We get a great close up of Ax-Wielder Jon himself, and get to see what a brutal character he is. He also has a very clear hold on his opponent. I can't stress how much I love the detail on the inside of the mouth and those fingers. Not to mention that the fly is such a nice touch!

The question, “Ready for some dessert?” signifies that this pummeling is far from over. For some reason, all I can think of when I read this is, “You can't have your dessert before dinner”, or can you? In this case it probably doesn't matter, there are going to be plenty of knuckle sandwiches for everyone.

Want to send a big thank you to John Mungiello for this art. I am pumped for Pitarra's upcoming release of Ax-Wielder Jon and this beauty has only reinforced that.

If you are unfamiliar with John Mungiello's work he is an artist that is worth a follow. He is currently working on his first graphic novel by the name of “Crawler”. From the early glimpses of character design, it is definitely going to be a title worth picking up.

I'm always a fan of the camera inside the mouth shot. The line art is really nice, too.

Now there's an angle you don't see a lot. Love the sores on the roof of the mouth. There's detail, and then there's detail. LOL
