DescriptionI've had this page for a while but posting before the imminent publication of Jordan Crane's collection of short stories, Goes Like This (Fantagraphics). Although he publishes irregularly, a new Crane volume is always welcome to remind readers of his talent for storytelling and visual design. This page is from Crane's recent graphic novel, Keeping Two, a book that follows several couples as they deal with grief and loss in various ways. I always liked this page in particular as a summary of many of the book's themes and an example of how Crane visually executes on those themes. One of Crane's central visual conceits in Keeping Two is the use of dashed outlines to define spaces once occupied by specific characters. This visual device gives the story an almost haunted feel and complements the book's indirect exploration of grief and loss. I recommend this book, even if not previously familiar with Crane's work. It's a complete story, one that I expect to reread regularly over the coming years. Social/Sharing |

that dashed outline technique is effective (and original!), this looks like an interesting book with some heavy themes. thanks for sharing!

It hits deeper if you've ever lost someone special in your life. What could have been will always follow your every move.

I'm not familiar with this creator or this project, as often happens with this type of independent material, but just based on the visuals of this page alone, I can already it hasto be a deeply affecting work. Crane's use of dashed outlines to represent absence is a brilliant visual metaphor, reinforcing the book’s themes of grief, memory, and emotional weight. So powerful!
