Description

Avalzant by Clark Ashton Smith

"Avalzant" appears in Smith's incomplete story The Infernal Star.

Smith's description of the art from one of his mailings: "Avalzant. Colored crayons. Avalzant, envoy of cosmic evil, with livid purple face, three-lobed orange forehead, barbed chin, fluted ears and blazing emerald eyes, is seen in three-quarter view gainst a city of bizarre golden towers that fume with writhing vapors beneath the red rays of zenith-hidden sun."

Emil Petaja once owned this and probably bought it directly from Smith.

It's quite large for Smith art, measuring 8.5"" x 11""."
