Description

This arrived in my inbox at the same time as the most recent B&B cover, but I thought I'd delay posting it for a bit: a fourth entry in my "alternate covers" collection, art by Bambos Georgiou, recreated from the original by Joe Kubert - and there's a bit of back-story to this.

After Kubert drew the cover for All-Star Squadron #2, he also produced artwork to be used as the cover for #3, only for Rich Buckler, to say that, as the then-interior artist, he felt that he should also be producing the covers - so the Kubert version was shelved.

A few months later Kubert gave the original to Roy Thomas as a wedding present - and after several years, Roy lent the art to DC for use as an interior page in Young All-Stars Annual #1, only for it to be stolen before it could be returned to Roy (and it remains missing to this day).

So here, for the first time, is what the cover to All-Star Squadron #3 *could* have looked like, complete with trade dress, above-the-logo tag-line, and a slightly modified speech bubble (to have the "tail" pointing in the right direction for this layout) from the published issue. Enjoy!

Very nice! So lame that the original was stolen. FYI - This art was also used for the Alter Ego Comic Book Artist Edition Book by Twomorrows publishing: https://twomorrows.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=183

I'd forgotten that - it's on my shelf but I can only see the spine from where I'm sitting...
