Description

I loved late 70s/early 80s Dr Fate. This is not that. I also loved how more and more willing DC was to experiment with their characters, especially their second and third tier characters, as the 80s moved along (hard to believe it didn't have something to do with creative types chaffing under Reagan and Thatcher but that is a discussion for another time).

In this splash, the deconstruction of Dr. Fate begins in earnest. This really simple splash set the stage for the next 15 to 20 years of Fate stories. And you have to believe DeMatteis and Giffen had a feeling it would. Rarely in his history had Fate been this vulernable and Keith spared no trick in showing that here.

And, worth mentioning the lettering by Augustin Mas. It's perfect throughout the mini and this page would have greatly suffered if lettered by anyone less forward leaning than Augustin.

Bought this piece during the spring 2022 Comic Art Live. Appreciate Shannon Slayton parting with it for such a fair price.
