Thrilled to add another Chapter page from Jaime's first main story and his launch to generational cartoonist. This page begins with a interlude to Hoppers where we check in on Hopey letting Speedy know what Maggie is up to. This is the 2nd appearance of Speedy, who becomes a major character and one of the central characters in the well renowned "Death of Speedy" story. Just great posing, a variety of different background characters and grafitti in the 2nd panel, and we get the running joke about Vicki Glory using the ropes to get steal the title from Rena Titanon.

The page ends with Rena checking in on a recovering Maggie, laying in the dark, soon to discover the physical ramifications of her illness. Great lighting with Rena bathed in sun from outdoors and the magazines illuminated in the dark room. I also love all the various styles Jaime comes up with for each Mechanics logo. This one is pretty punk.

To me, the Locas/Maggie saga is an epic at the very top of all comics and this story is the beginning of it all.

Just in that second panel, Jaime makes a statement with the establishing shot that has care put into the setting and people not part of the story. Very unusual, but lends to the authenticity of the storytelling.

One of my favorite pages in a great story. So cool to see such early renditions of Speedy and Hopey. This is a gem.
