Description10x15" Bristol board with very detailed pen and ink art along with zip-a-tone shading. I commissioned Guy Davis to do this in 2001. As a huge fan of his work in general, and SMT as a comic series, I was thrilled with how this turned out. Guy sent me three quick outlines and I picked this layout, which is think is just fabulous. It is as if Wesley Dodds (The Sandman) and his girlfriend Dian Belmont posed for a picture. Wesley has a Sandman doll tucked in one arm and hanging out of his coat pocket are a gasmask and gun. Behind them is a cityscape including "Hotel" building. This will always be one of my most treasured pieces of art.Social/Sharing |

This is fabulous. I rarely see Guy Davis commission and this one is from 2001 so that's a tell-tale sign. By the way, I think you and I posted Sandman Mystery Theatre pieces right at the same time.

Excellent. His work on that series was perfectly suited.

All that zip is pretty awesome. The right pattern for the right use and level of depth. Hits on the right notes for a period piece portrait. A man needing his lady to conquer the evil in the city behind him.

Love Guys work from this period. Such a great pin up, and love how the zip is yellowing. My Domu piec he did is like that but what is great is it totally looks intentional. I miss his work in comics but what he left us with is always a great read.
