DescriptionThere has been so very much discussion about commissions lately. Ruben just led a very animated discussion yesterday evening. While the process of obtaining commissions can be enormously frustrating, one must be patient. It helps when the artist concerned has a reliable rep. This is how I managed to obtain the present commission. Felix's lists fill up almost immediately. I obtained this commission at a time when it was not impossible to get on the list. I love published art and that is my primary focus. However, commissions really rock when one has an idea that is right within the ballpark of the artist. I loved the series God Country - wonderfully written by Donny Cates and equally wonderfully drawn by Geoff Shaw. The same duo was subsequently responsible for the Thanos series. It seemed to me that it might be neat to have Geoff draw together two parallel cosmic universes - the result is the present commission. Geoff really nailed it. Many thanks once again to Felix for helping to make this happen.Social/Sharing |

Cool idea - I am also not a big commission collector but I see how this one needed to be created!

Many thanks, Mark! Could I also take this opportunity to congratulate you on a marvellous Bill Everett collection.

I believe it was Derek in that discussion with Ruben that mentioned commission were that inbetween space where meet-ups of cross property, cross publishers, cross title characters like this were possible. And this is a mighty fine example!

Many thanks, Jeff! This was simply ideal, given that Geoff worked on both titles.

A true beauty by Shaw. His work on both of these books was nothing short of outstanding, and this is perfectly captured here.

Well this certainly is perfect timing, isn't it? After you mentioned it in the chat last night, I'm very excited that you thought to post it today! Truly a piece after Derek's heart. I can't say the story synopsis makes me want to read it, but as I've heard good things about it and because YOU liked it enough to get this commission made for you, I've just reserved my library's copy of it and look forward to letting you know what I think of it once I've had a chance to read it. The art here is spectacular by the way. I love the beautiful, tight finishes on the inks and Emmet Quinlan's stance is full of old school Marvel, dynamic heroics in the mold of John Buscema. The background design just completes a wonderful overall piece of art!

Many thanks, Rubén! I am glad that you will be reading it. There is a lot more to this story than the usual slam bang action (although it's present as well). But I willl say no more so as not to even hint at any spoilers. Indeed, I liked the series so much that I purchased an entire issue (which I hitherto never did).

God Country certainly proved that Shaw could handle the small moments of a father and son relationship as well as the epic scale of fighting gods with Valofax and old man strength! This next opponent may prove to be tougher, but when Emmet tells you get off his lawn, he means it!

It was a very poignant moment in the final issue between father and son whilst dealing with the very real issue of dementia that faces millions of persons (and their respective families) across the globe. The series really dealt with multiple issues whilst still furnishing us with artwork of the highest order. I would highly recommend reading the series which has since been collected into a trade paperback.
