Description

This illustration is a Manticore and a Mermecoleon done by Gervasio Gallardo for the Time Life series, "The Enchanted World." These creatures are from Book 8 (Magical Beasts). The manticore can shoot the quills from its tail while the mermecoleon, also called an ant-lion is the spawn of an ant and a lion. The poor ant-lion is a short-lived creature as its ant side will only eat plants while its lion side only wants meat so it starves to death. If anyone knows the whereabouts of the Peryton illustration I'd appreciate the heads up.
