Description

"Prescription for Tragedy" written by Martin Pasko.

Although not an action page, I love the noir treatment of Batman's call on Commissioner Gordon that ends with his classic vanishing act.

Page synopsis: Commissioner Gordon explains that the tranquilizer serotonal was among the illegal drugs that Batman intercepted; it's banned by the FDA because it doesn't work and has dangerous side effects.

Batman thinks to himself that Man-Bat stole some of the serotonal during the fight with the drug runners.

Gordon adds that a DEA bulletin warns that recent shipments of the drug are contaminated with deadly toxic bacteria. He thinks the contamination is likely from unsanitary conditions where it was made. They have to find the contaminated drugs before they kill people.

Batman suspects that a doctor or pharmacist is behind the smuggling of the drug.

Gordon asks him to share where he thinks the other shipments might be, but Batman has already disappeared into the night.

A very nice quiet page between Batman and Gordon as only Newton could stage, with nice iks by Adkins on top.

Newton fits right in with art on this page that takes the best of Colan and Aparo empahsizing heavy shadows and close ups for atmospheric effect.

Fine Don Pencils with great Adkins inks..I feel Dan was underappreciated as a Penciler and inker.
