Description

"Panic on Park Avenue!" by Gerry Conway.

This is the final page of Mister Hyde and the Scorpion's flashback sequence.

The Scorpion convinces Hyde that SHIELD is the only one with the advanced equipment that held them in stasis.

They set forth to exact their revenge on SHIELD, which at the current point of the story is kidnapping Sharon Carter.

The narrator enlightens us that Mister Kline, an android from the future, was responsible for their captivity.

Kline, also known as the Assassin, used android duplicates to battle Daredevil, Black Widow, and Iron Man in an effort to alter the timeline.

"Scrupulous" Stan Lee provides us with DD and Iron Man issue numbers for the Kline saga.

Final panel returns to the story's present.

Cap and the Falcon race across the rooftops of New York City to reach Sharon Carter before the villains.

Note: In 1972, Stan's editor comment bubbles were one of the few ways to learn about related back issues. The Internet, local comic shops, and trade paperbacks didn't exist, although limited, mimeographed fanzines were around, if you knew about them. When you didn't have a back issue, you searched convenience and tobacco stores and news stands, asked friends, mailed letters to the handful of dealers you saw in classified ads, or, if you were extremely fortunate, went to one of the few comic conventions. To give a sense of the time, the first comic convention and the first San Diego Comic-Con were respectively only eight and two years before this comic.

Wow, two Misters on one page! I love the "scales of justice" motif in the 3rd panel, and the running poses in the last panel are exciting as well.

The collection of characters are a real big part of this page's appeal.  It is sandwiched in between the two villains on the top and the two heroes at the bottom.  The little tunnel panel has pretty cool lighting too!
