Description

"Medal of Honor: Assault on the Hermit Kingdom" by unknown writer.

Congress awarded ship's carpenter Cyrus Hayden the Medal of Honor for heroism beyond the call of duty.

The story begins with USS General Sherman, on a trade mission in Korea, running aground in 1866.

Page's lower left corner has a gray tone gouache portrait of Hayden.

Thanks for the links.Interesting story.

So is the "Three Stooges" background of artist Norman Maurer, who married Moe's daughter and created the first 3-D comic:

Thank you, Tom! Excellent, succinct points about Maurer. I forgot to include his interesting background in the description. Joe Kubert and he were classmates at Manhattan's High School of Music and Art and close, lifelong friends.

Even when the sentiment towards war turned in the 70's, Maurer's presents a scene that feels authentic and inspires appreciation of those who served and earned the highest honor in the land.

A very nice splash and the Cyrus Hayden head shot is outstanding! What a shame the printing couldn't properly reproduce it back then.

Great page. Even the stat logo. Too bad the printing for the portrait didn't match Maurer's artistry.
