Description

Even folks with no interest in or knowledge of comic books will recognize this character, at least if they're half as old as I am. Chuck Jones is my favorite creator in the animation space and WEC is my favorite of his many creations. I absolutely love the quality of Jones's lines, especially in his pencil layouts and roughs. Everything he did was so expressive and animated, full of life.

As a kid I watched every WB cartoon over and over during Saturday morning TV broadcasts, back when there were 13 channels and 3 networks to choose from. I told myself, and my friends, that someday when I grew up I'd own every one of these cartoons in some sort of physical movie library, but this is not necessary in the age of streaming, so some physical OA will fill the void for me.

Thanks for taking a look!

A wonderful piece by the amazing Chuck Jones! When it comes to animation art, I actually prefer looking at the pencilled sketches over the finished cells, as they contain all the natural spontaneity that the cells lose. Now you really need a Road Runner to have a perfect, matching pair!

Lucky for you, this wonderful sketch was easier to catch than the Road Runner ;)

Disney may have had their Nine Old Men, but WB had an all-star team of their own.  Legendary animators like Fritz Freleng, Jones, Virgil Ross, Bob Clampett, and others contributed to some of my fondest memories of countless afternoon matinees, waiting for the movie to kick off with the inevitable Looney Tunes short.  Animation and comic art may be two very different animals, but it's almost impossible to be a fan of one and not the other.  Because they are similar in the only way that really matters.  The joy they bring to all of us.  An absolute gem of a drawing by one of the true legends in the field.

I fully agree with my fellow 'cat.' I always wanted the annoying duo to be eaten. All those cartoons teach you is that annoying ***** win. Chuck Jones was a genius!

A Looney Tunes warrior
Meep , meep stride
Today's Road Runner
Beep, beep pride

Though his mind tries to invent
They lead him down to accidents
He deserves, an Acme defense
Riding out Chuck Jones events
Road Runner

What you say about this Coyote
Is what you say about society
Catch the Wile, catch E. myth
Catch the coyote, fall from cliff

Gravity, the world is
Rocks and cliffs are deep
Maybe as canyons are wide
Today's Road Runner, he physics on you
And the space he invades, he gets Mel Blanc too

These lyrics really tickled me --- no need to look up the video, I immediately recognized the source.  Thanks again for making my day, Marcus!

Beautiful piece! Jones was such an amazing designer of poses and could wring such incredibly specific expressions from his characters that are almost impossible to describe but everyone knows exactly how they feel.

Spectacular piece, artless!  I'd wager it's safe to say that Chuck Jones probably laid the foundation for a fair share of us in terms of a love of hand-drawn storytelling...  Looney Toons was most likely a factor in our lives before most of us discovered comics...? Doesn't really matter, I suppose; this is a treasure, plain and simple!  The most wonderful part for me is the Chuck Jones letterhead, which, when you tip the piece on its side to see it, sends the poor Coyote ("Soopa GEENius!") plummeting straight downwards at a 90 degree angle, like some sort of interactive Looney Toon moment... :)  SO, so cool!  Mega-congrats, artless artmore!

Incredibly cool Wile E. Coyote sketch! I loved Chuck Jones' Road Runner cartoons as a kid and Wile E. Coyote was the reason why. Wile E. Coyote was the one who tried and tried and tried but was outsmarted every time by the Road Runner. But Wile E. Coyote was the character you could identify with. At least he was the one I identified with. Fun to pick up a sketch from his creator!
