DescriptionMiraclemanArt By Daniel Warren Johnson Daniel Warren Johnson is an amazing artist. That statement surprises no one who has seen his art. His creator owned work on Extremity and Murder Falcon is epic, beautiful, kinetic, and filled with so much heart. His current creator owned series Do A Powerbomb is some of my favorite work he has done. Even with my high expectations it exceeded them, clearing the top rope with ease. The world building he established is fantastic. His evolution as a comic creator and artist continues to elevate with each project. Every page has such dynamic, kinetic, storytelling that never forgets its heart. What you accomplished with Extremity was incredible. Your story of a wounded artist trying to survive as she slowly compromises her soul to violence, war, and revenge was a masterful debut. Murder Falcon was full of such energy, power, and heart and is simply wonderful. Wonder Woman: Dead Earth and Beta Ray Bill were terrific and your story in Superman Red and Blue is one of my all-time favorite Superman stories ever, in the same echelon as All-Star Superman, For All Seasons and Birthright. You have an incredible gift of synthesizing your passions and creating something unique and very special. Daniel’s commissions are unparalleled. At NYCC 2022. He was the first table I ran to on Thursday morning and unfortunately did not make it but on day two I was in line early enough to get on his list. I requested Miracleman. Miracleman was the first comic I hunted down. I was so excited to find my first issue, issue two which was the first fight between Miracleman and Kid Miracleman. Between that and Twomorrows guide Kimota! I was able to rebuild what the story was until I was able to acquire the run. Now with Marvel starting to bring the character back both by finishing the Gaiman run and having him start to appear in the Marvel 616 universe it is a very good time to be a fan The best place to start with him is the beginning of Alan Moore's run, "A Dream of Flying" it features some great art by Gary Leach and Alan Davis. The character has a really interesting, weird history. Originally created as a blatant replacement for Shazam after the British publisher lost the license. instead of Shazam, Child Mickey Moran shouts Kimota (atomic spelled backwards) and becomes Miracleman. Alan Moore tells the story of what happens when Mickey forgets his magic word for 30 years. He is 42 out of shape and barely making ends meet as a freelance reporter. Until during a terrorist attack he finally remembers his magic word. It is an amazing deconstruction of the superhero. Alan Moore wrote the first 16 issues with art by Gary Leach Alan Davis Rick Veitch and John Totleben. Then Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham took over but unfortunately their story was never completed. It's brilliant! A bit rougher, a bit more punk, you see Alan Moore perfecting the music he and Dave Gibbons created with Watchmen. I learned about Miracleman when I was a kid reading interviews in Wizard Magazine with some of my favorite creators, who spoke of it almost in hushed tones of reference. It has inspired so many creators and stories. For the longest time it was very difficult to find the issues. Miracleman was one if the first books I hunted down as a collector. The first issue I located was issue two. It's still one of my favorite single issues I have ever reads. The book was so difficult to find because published by Eclipse who went bankrupt, and the rights were broken up with some being bought by Todd McFarlane and it became a crazy legal battle. Marvel eventually got the rights, and they will hopefully complete Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham's story. The influence of Miracleman can't be understated as this and Watchmen set the tone for the next age of comics publishing. I love what Daniel did with this piece, it’s a quiet moment but still captures the power of the character. Social/Sharing |

It's crazy how much emotion he can convey in subtle squiggles of a simple line... the expression in this one is just superb! Congratulations!

Definitely a piece brimming with energy, as per usual with DWJ, but also calming. Really dig how small he is compared to the rest of the piece...can be a lonely existence. Congrats!
