Description

After years of chatting with, and commissioning, Jesse online, I was looking forward to meeting him in person at this year's NYCC. It was a real treat to get to know him better as both an artist and a person.

In the lead up to the show, he posted a number of pieces he was bringing to New York. All were great, but this one, in particular, caught my eye. Thankfully, I was there on opening day and was able to bring it home.

As Jesse shared with me, he's always looking to evolve. He said he gets bored otherwise, so he's always trying new techniques and ideas. For instance, he's taken to using ink stamps on his most recent pieces.

In this one, he makes the smart storytelling decision to use tones. The grays help Felicia's iconic white hair pop and grab the eye, while subtly hiding fun details to enjoy upon deeper inspection. And the red "laser" lines give it a little something extra to boot.

Crazy good! Black Cat is so confident that she doesn't even need to tie up her hair. I guess her powers come into play.
