DescriptionThe Swamp Thing #8 Pg. 2 & 3 Double Page Title Splash DPSArt by Mike Perkins Written by Ram V I've previously posted The Cover and Pg. 1 to this issue, The Swamp Thing #8 Things get turned up a notch here on the Double Page Title Splash for "In My Infancy, Part 3" as Swamp Things engages in an all out battle with Suicide Squad member Chemo, with Mike Perkins paying homage to the legacy of great Swamp Thing artists before him in this stunning battle scene DPS! There might only be 1 page in the entire issue (yet to come) that I personally love more than this one, it's pretty tough to top this though!! If you haven't already read this run and are a Swamp Thing fan or just enjoy seeing incredible artwork and storytelling in comics, do it! Social/Sharing |

Bissette/Totleben and Wrightson set the highest of bars when it came to Swamp Thing art but this is very powerful stuff.

agreed Mark! Mike is a strong #3 especially in recent times for me although I hate ranking artists personally. I feel as though he is really paying homage to those 3 on pages like this, especially Totleben/Bissette

Holy cow, what a DPS! That is the quintessential Swamp Thing piece! You have that beauty in your collection, and you can sit back and relax, cuz as far as that character goes, you're done! But who are we fooling, we're never 'done' with anything in this hobby, lol. Gems beget more gems ... Anyway, CONGRATS!!

haha, thanks Paul!! agree on all fronts. this COULD be a one and done Swamp Thing piece for me or anyone, but we'll never be done with anything lol. Luckily in this specific case I own the complete issue as well as various other pages from the run - one of my personal favorites of the last 4 years or so!

Outstanding stuff, Kavi! Dynamic stuff, to say the least, and SO much detail. Also nice bonus having the story title lettering incorporated at the bottom right. A stunner! Congrats!

His line work is truly magnificent and reminds me of old masters like Booth and Clement Coll! Nice pick up!

There's Swamp Thing sweet in Perkins line
But he was lean and inks were coarse and brush refined
And Ram V’s there Chemo unsure
I got Levi My Infancy In there before
Perchance this page, I thought I saw
And when ink brush, we didn't splatter chemicals
No, if Kavi can’t just ignore
But then he's never looked Ram V that way before
New and comics alarming
Who'd have ever Swamp Thing this DP
True, that he's no Prince Charming
But there's Swamp Thing in him that inks simply isn’t green

Swamp Thing (ST) abbreviates very close to Star Wars (SW), this has me thinking about shifting gears. This was such an incredible run, both story and art.

Not to get too shameless but there's still a bit of good art left available from the run at Ruben's website!! For all your SW folks sitting on the ST fence ;-p www.comicbookartgallery.com

There is something wrong with the trees. A presence screaming out in pain—tearing, gnashing, and gnawing through the very fabric of the Green—calling out for blood. In its wake, a trail of viscera and carnage is left—leading to a mystery that the Parliament of Trees has conscripted Poison Ivy and Swamp Thing to solve. Can the Verdant Villainess and the Avatar of the Green make their way into the heart of this homicidal wilderness and discover the source of this horror, or will they find themselves the next victims of these feral trees? This story, brought to violent life by G. Willow Wilson and Mike Perkins, will answer these questions. But beware, this terrifying tale is not for the weak of heart.
Poison Ivy/Swamp Thing: Feral Trees will be available wherever comics are sold on Wednesday, October 30th. You're welcome. 😉

Crazy workmanship. I am certain this presents great in person where you canote easily distinguish between all its parts. Love the text integration here too! Congrats!

For sure man, in person this DPS just looks absolutely insanely good. I'd also usually have an even higher Rez scan when I scan myself I do it at 4x resolution than this and 300 DPI but for this DPS I had trouble connecting both halves perfectly so the lines match up as there are so many lines to connect ha - so I just used the scan Ruben originally sent me, which also looks good but with a large page with this many details it can actually benefit from the higher resolution and DPI. Wish I was better at merging DPS pages

I think you found the answer to the age old interview question: what is your greatest weakness?

In my infancy, I loved monsters. They were otherwise known as dinosaurs. I then encountered other monsters. King Kong, Frankenstein, Wolfman, Dracula and others. At the age of 12, I discovered another monster, made of vegetation, tree roots and plant matter. His name was Swamp Thing. Two years later I read my first story featuring this character in Saga of the Swamp Thing #37, thereby igniting a love for him and his adventures that still stands today. Little did I know then that 21 years later I'd be tasked with helping a comic book artist grow the market for his own artwork and 16 years beyond that I'd have the privilege of admiring said artist's original Swamp Thing artwork from an instant classic run in person, much less get to own a few pages myself and help other collecting friends do the same. Thanks for finally sharing this one, Kavi!

Okay... so much for starting quiet... :) An unflinchingly vicious spread, allowing for Mike to showcase his ability to depict the raw power of a forest rebelling. But even in the explosive face of the unfettered bombast on display, Mike still sculpted a gorgeous forest in wash behind the combatants; a reminder of the stakes in play here. Red-hot action and Perez-worthy rubble.
The title DPSes in this run were all so gorgeous and unique, and you have one here that drips power and resolve. Incredible work! Fantastic add, Kavi (and thank you for posting these! :) )
