DescriptionSo here is a really fun one that I have had in the works for awhile now. Ok, story time! A few years ago I stumbled on a Frankenstein pencil sketch from Greg Capullo, drawn in 1995. After asking some questions to the seller, I decided to buy it (for an incredibly great price). I also have since verified it’s authenticity from Greg just to be sure. I mean the sketch itself is obviously Capullo, just never hurts to ask! Once I bought it I knew that I wanted to treat it with some respect and have an inker elevate the piece even further since there was some great energy in the sketch already. Given the date the sketch was drawn and the subject matter, I knew I wanted to ask Danny Miki if he would want to work on this one. Well, once I talked to Danny about my idea he was 100% onboard but was also very upfront about the fact that he really doesn't do commissions and the last few he did took about two years to complete. I knew that since he stated that he really wanted to do this one, I knew any wait would be worth it. My original idea was for something relatively simple, I was just thinking about maybe adding a castle wall behind the monster and then add the Frankenstein trade dress from the old Dell comic series. I thought the title font for that series paired nicely with the playful nature of the original sketch. Well Danny agreed but after some playing with it, he came up with something far better (as artists tend to do!). All in all the process took just under three years but Danny was always in contact with me and would just randomly send me "I haven't forgotten about you" emails and progress pics along the way. Ultimately I was absolutely right in that any wait would be worth it. Danny poured so much work and energy to create this beautiful piece. The background setting that he created with Frankenstein's Castle off in the distance. There is so much to enjoy and admire in this piece and it came out far better than I originally imagined. Huge thanks to Danny for agreeing to work on this one and for being 100% transparent throughout the process.Social/Sharing |

Looks great and great story!
Thanks man. Yeah, it started with a random eBay search a few years ago and now here we are. Thrilled with the result!

This is fantastic! It's like Capullo wanted to sketch a Jack Davis Frankenstein and Miki turns it into a fully realized modern classic in that vein.
