DescriptionThe gang's all here! Hulk, Valkyrie, Doctor Strange, Namor, Nighthawk, Hellcat and even Red Raven!I was a big fan of Erik Larsen's more tongue-in-cheek run on the Defenders. It was super fun. As Erik said himself back in 2001, "These characters don't really like each other. But Kurt Busiek came up with a neat idea of why they stay together. I won't say what it is... but it works really well. Silver Surfer, Sub-Mariner, Hulk? All these guys have attacked the Earth. And then Dr. Strange is just creepy. When the Avengers show up, everyone says, 'Oh, good, the Avengers are here. They'll save us.' But the Defenders? When they show, everyone runs for their lives!" Well ... look out, cuz here they come! A smashing Defenders piece with Hulk's Kirby styled fist leading the way!

But OF COURSE you own the preeminent team splash from this series! I wasn't aware that this series was written with Busiek's tongue planted firmly in his cheek, but I never cared for the Defenders much, so maybe this is a good reason to try reading it! Anyway, congrats on such an explosive splash. With Larsen's love for all things Kirby, you know you're going to get energetic fun with anything he draws and that's demonstrated here with much aplomb!

Hmm, I wasn't aware of any plums in this image....I mean, there's so much going on, I suppose I could have missed seeing something like that...I'll look agai...Oh wait, you said a-PLOMB! Hahaha! Had to do that bad joke. I'm just really tickled that you used the word "aplomb." Bravo! You win "Word of the Week!" 😀

This is better than most of the covers in the series.

There's my team. No Surfer on this one, but still my favorite super group. Congrats on a killer team splash!

"I wouldn't be a member of any club that would have me." - Groucho. Heh, great point in your write-up. I really enjoyed that tongue-in-cheek run, too. Great team shot, comin' atcha' right through the page. I wonder when we'll see some Defenders on the big screen. Hmmm, Marvel? Cool page!

Excuse Me! pardon Me! Don't mind me. Just breaking throught this wall here. Great bottom splash and I love the placement of Namor's and Hulk's fists.

I loved this series and wish it could have lasted longer. In fact a page from this series was an early pickup for me when I first started collecting OA. This is an incredible shot of the team, and you can tell Larsen must have been having a ball drawing it.

Ahh, jealous o' this one! I should've nabbed a nice Defenders piece by Larsen back when I had the chance. But great seeing one here in your collection! So much energy, and you can tell that Larsen just flat out enjoyed drawing this book. Congrats!

Yeah, Erik just always has that joyful "I am SO loving drawing these characters" look to his art, doesn't he. I think that's what attracts me to it so much in general.
