Roy Thomas Presents The Heap: Volume 2 Cover

The Heap Reading Man-Thing, one of the characters he helped inspire, along with DC's Swamp Thing. Comic book humor lol. In the final published book product the book he is reading is altered to be this one (The Heap Vol. 2), but I prefer the self-homage humor of the original painting by far to that - I'm guessing they couldn't get that cleared with Marvel.

This painted art has an image area of approximately 12" x 16.5". Comic book legend Frank Brunner painted this cover to Roy Thomas Presents the Heap #2, a collection of Golden Age stories featuring comic book's original swamp creature. Humorously, the Heap is seen reading an issue of Man-Thing, the Bronze Age Marvel comic book that was inspired by the Golden Age character. The Heap is a comic book's original "man turned into a swamp creature" character who inspired the latter creations of both Marvel's Man-Thing and DC's Swamp Thing.

The Heap first appeared in the "SkyWolf" feature in Air Fighters Comics #3 (1942). The Heap starred in his own feature in Airboy Comics from 1946 to 1953. In the 1980s, the character was revived by Eclipse Comics and appeared in their updated version of Airboy.
