DescriptionWhat's better than onomatopoeia on a page? Painted onomatopoeia on a page. I wonder if it is supposed to be emulating gunfire or rats running across the battlefield? I love the layers of soldiers in that 3/4 splash panel. I had to look a couple times before I saw the tops of the helmets in the background. These pages just keep getting better. Social/Sharing |

The onomatopoeia definitely adds a unique flair, giving a tactile, immersive quality to the page. Too bad it's not on the original art! But whether it’s emulating gunfire or rats scurrying across the battlefield, it definitely enhances the chaotic energy of the scene. The layered soldiers in that 3/4 splash panel are masterfully done. The depth and perspective really pull you into the scene. It’s easy to miss the helmets in the background on first glance, but that’s part of the genius, I think.

I don't know that I have any Mutti art that has text on it.....Maybe I'll see if he has any stashed away.

I'm not saying you should get any. I was just making a reference to the fact that the onomatopoeia you mention isn't noticeable unless you scroll down and see the additional scan of the printed comic page. Personally, as cool as it is to sometimes have the lettering on the art, overall I prefer to see the art unmarred by captions and word balloons, when it comes to contemporary comics.

So ghostly! Like soldiers that appear out of the fog of war once they hear the call to battle.
