Description

Mike Hoffman is a phenomenon. I love the high recognition value of his female figures and the lightness of his brushstrokes. This painting immediately grabbed me because of the luminosity of the colors and the abstract background. 16x20 inches, 2024.

Great pickup, it's lovely. Mike Hoffman does beautiful work.

Usually the focus of color work would be on the dancer up against a plain background to create the contrast. Hoffman subverts it by doing the opposite putting silhouette and negative space in motion against the impressionist paints.

Thank you, Marcus, that's what makes Mike Hoffman's work special. I think the picture also exudes the flair of 60s/70s depictions, where silhouettes of dancers were set against an abstract and often garishly colored background, like in a James Bond title sequence.
