Unfortunately, I don't know whether this beautiful cover painting was really used as the cover for the novel Il Corsaro Nero by Emilio Salgari. 25x25.5 cm, 1980.

Pirate gold! You can imagine that there had to be people who actually dressed up for Thole for literal portrait as opposed to his sci-fi concept paintings.

Thanks for your comment, Marcus. In my opinion, Karel Thole was one of the most important graphic artists of the 20th century. For a long time, I didn't find access to his sometimes somewhat unwieldy works, but that's changing now.
