Description

Writer Chris Claremont, penciller Al Rio, and inker Bob McLeod. There’s three aces for you. And when I saw an opportunity to pick up both Al’s approval pencil layouts and Bob’s inked final art (I’m posting both separately), I couldn’t resist keeping them together.

Warlock and Sunspot take care of the bad guys in the top panel. Sunspot realizes his mother his been injured during the melee. Warlock morphs into his human guise as Roberto asks him to call for help. Spoiler alert from this alternate timeline tale from back in 2010… she survives!

Pencils loose, but I can't take a page with the inks like you
That's something I couldn't do

There's that look, Rio eyes
I can read in their page that new mutants are driving you wild
Ah, Bob would ink in only his style

Call ambulance for your mommy, if your spot is Sunny
Does your mother know she’s knocked out?
And I got Douglock your mommy, worth the Marvel maybe
Does your Martha know she’s knocked out?

So great to see McLeod on finishes here. Not only because of the nostalgia factor of him being the co-creator and original artist of The New Mutants, but because it also shows us just how much work goes into doing "finishes". You should add the layouts as an additional image here though, and add this one as an additional image to the layouts listing. Makes it much easier for people to compare!
