Description

After seeing one of my unboxing videos for a previous Stingray meets... commission, John Burkett reached out to me via Instagram to see if I would be down for him to add to the project. I was very down and sent him the list of characters for Stingray to meet. I was intrigued when he picked Dagon as there were a number of directions he could have taken the piece.

Ultimately, John went for a straight up horror piece. This reads like a scene from a John Carpenter movie. A truly terrifying fish god/monster chases Stingray across a sunken ship, breaking the mast in his frenzy.

Stingray, Dagon, the elements of the ship, and even the fish in the foreground are all rendered in highly detailed linework that really brings the scene to life. John shows off his command of light and shadow through the use of deep black inks; appropriate for this battle among the depths!

Nice! Love the Clown Triggerfish in the foreground.. means they are in Southeast Asia .

Excellent piece! John nailed the assignment. Also very good storytelling, makes me want to see how Stingy gets fights back and gets out of this particular jam lol

Love the inks and the full on horror take here! He nails the composition and packs in a ton of detail into both characters. His style reminds me of Brian Level and Troy Nixey and I like it!

Absolutely terrific, and great to hear artists are reaching out to you! I love the fish at the bottom. Seeing Dagon come crashing through a dock is damn impressive. Well done sir!
