DescriptionThrilled to add this amazing cover by John Romita, Sr. to my collection! This twice-up masterpiece captures Romita’s incredible talent, with Spider-Man holding an unconscious Aunt May as Doctor Octopus looms menacingly in the background. Romita’s ability to convey emotion, even through Spider-Man’s mask, is astounding—details like the clutching of his fists and the tension in his stance communicate his desperation and resolve perfectly. What makes this piece even more special is its rarity. Romita began illustrating Spider-Man with issue #39 in 1966, during Marvel’s brief use of the twice-up format, which ended with issue #67 in 1968. This means Romita only produced a limited number of twice-up Spider-Man covers, making this spectacular cover part of an exclusive group of oversized treasures. These larger-format pieces not only showcase JR’s remarkable skill but are also some of the most coveted works in comic art history. A very special thanks to GB for helping me add this piece to my collection. Social/Sharing |

A silver age Romita Sr. ASM masterpiece indeed!! early cover content of Doc Ock vs Spidey while he's protecting Aunt May, wow, can't ask for much better. Incredible piece, congrats!

That's a Museum Level piece of art. Not only because its rarity. Its quality is overhelming. IMHO on ASM run nothing is comparable to a Spidey and Doc Ock confrontation... if you add Aunt Mary on that dramatic scene then it becomes ICONIC! Huge congrats Amir on that SUPERB addition!

Spidey looks so angry with this taking a personal turn! A very bright spot in the Silver Age of Marvel as Romita created the heroic ideal image of Spider-Man the mainstream knows best. Presents so well with the larger format having the intent of each character made clear.

Classic, iconic, legendary, timeless. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. About as good as it gets for my favorite character and one of his greatest artists. Wow!

Congrats Amir! An astounding addition that is as rare as anything out there. An incredibly early cover, practically kissing the Ditko run. I'm sure this will be a cornerstone of your amazing collection for many years to come. Happy New Year!

Phenomenal Amazing Spider-Man cover by John Romita! When Romita first began drawing ASM, he mimiced Steve Ditko's style, but here in issue #54 he has clearly established his own look for the character. Spider-Man is more filled-out, less the scrawny teenager he was when Ditko drew him and more the man that he became. I love this scene, with Spidey holding Aunt May as Doctor Octopus tears a hole in the building to escape. Spidey's pose alone shows his anger that he can't take up the chase because he needs to look after Aunt May. Stunning cover--It must be amazing to see in person. Twice-Up covers are always amazing to behold. Great pick-up, congrats!
