DescriptionDone in 1980.Jim told me that he would turn in proposed cover concepts to DC. Only a few ever got used. This one was not and thanks to detective work by Arthur, it appears to be a design for Legion 267 cover. Social/Sharing |

You always won every line of piece concept
You're still damn good
No one’s Legion saw art yet
Every time they were sure they had in thought
You were quicker than they bought
You'd just come on back with art
You always said the art would never do you wrong
The trick, you said, was never play the Gim Allon
A cover share, the only bounce that you would take
The secret of the Legion rings
The DC stuff you couldn't fake
And you're still Jim Janes
I caught up with you yesterday (still the Janes, still Jim Janes)
Moving game to game
Allon standing in your way
Turning on the charm
All pencils to get you buy (still the Janes, still Jim Janes)
You're still the Janes
You still aim high
Still the Janes, still Jim Janes

Goliath! Uh, I mean Giant-Man! Oh, right, this is DC...Very cool cover concept and like Kavi mentions, I really dig the intricate setting he's standing in.

FYI: Colossa Boy first appeared in Action Comics #267 (1960). Giant-Man (later Goliath) first appeared in Tales to Astonish #49 (1963).

Miki, I put on my Detective Chimp cap to find the issue for which your unused cover was drawn. Check out issue 267 of Legion of Superheroes (September, 1980). Same four Legionnaires on the published cover, and a blurb like the one on your cover, "Announcing an 8-page revelation! The Secret of The Legion Flight Rings!"

Thanks! I actually own that Legion 267 cover!

You're welcome! Both covers are winners (but the published cover by Giordano is so good I gasped...).

It's been said so often because it's true. Janes pencils were so much better than when inked and published.
