Can you honestly tell me you could turn down a title, like: "Flash, Dale and Zarkov Run for Cover into a Cult of Fanatics!"

Dynamic work from Yeates's first pro work! Together with Al Williamson, Carlos Garcon and Victor de la Fuentes.

Tom Yeates told me that he took the Cave World entrance design to the Cave World directly from the original Alex Raymond story. I finally found it in the March 1935 Sunday (included in the additional photos.)

It all goes back to Flash Gordon and Tarzan, doesn't it? These two characters kicked off the avalanche of pop culture of heroes. Thanks to the incredible imagination and artistry of Alex Raymond, Flash has been an enduring figure of pop culture to the present day.

From Grand Comics Database: According to Mark Schultz in Flesk Publications "Al Williamson's Flash Gordon, A Lifelong Vision of the Heroic" (2009), this is one of Thomas Yeates' first professional assignments (1980) and that Al Williamson inked various panels.

Just the right time period for the revival of space adventures! Yeates has certainly continued the illustration strip tradition through the years and it's great to see his start with Williamson and Garzon passing on some of their expertise.
