Description

Page from the dynamic 12-page work from Tom Yeates's first pro work! Together with an All-Star lineup: Al Williamson, Carlos Garcon and Victor de la Fuentes. Big bold panels detailing the classic Alex Raymond 1935 "Cave Kingdom" storyline.

While exploring the Cave Kingdom given to Flash Gordon by Ming. Having just observed the strange "Fields of Paradise" ceremony, their leader Plaxis invites Flash, Dale and Zarkov to a laboratory built for Zarkov (he seems to have one everywhere!)

Dale though seems to be uneasy telling the others that "...there's something awfully strange about Plaxis' whole set-up." Is she right? What could it be? Find out in our next adventure filled page! Space-drama at its finest!

Yeates told me that he felt the editors at Gold Key were pretty prudish. He had drawn Dale in a much more revealing outfit (as can definitely be seen in Alex Raymonds original work!), but the editors didn't approve and actually had the images redrawn or reworked!!! (which can be seen when it's held up to the light.)

Whitman was distributed in department stores along with Big Little Books, so it had to be bought buy paents for their kids and they didn't want to jeopardize those sales. I like how the inking does make a point in the last panel. Can't blame Yeates for that.
