DescriptionSteven Butler is a name from my childhood and perhaps yours as well. I remember when he was the main artist on books like Silver Sable and Web of Spider-Man (during the Clone Saga). His style was a blend of the '90s aesthetic with the classic style of Spidey artists like Ross Andru and Alex Saviuk.I contacted him through his Facebook page and inquired about an 11" x 17" Spider-Man commisison. I asked for Spidey in his traditional costume (with underarm wedding, of course!) swinging in front of the Daily Bugle building. It took Steven about 2 weeks from the time I requested the commission to completion. I usually don't discuss prices in my Comic Art Fans posts, but I would be remiss if I did not mention that Steven only charged $200 for this 11" x 17" pen and ink commission with a full background. Steven is a very kind and professional guy and I highly recommend him to one and all. Social/Sharing |

Yes, I remember those Silvr Sable books very well. And yes, I agree stylistically he reminds me of Saviuk. Great Spidey piece. As I look at this, I can almost hear the theme song in my head.

Thank you for the comment, my friend. And now I have the theme song stuck in my head as well.

It's a clssic pose and it is super clean;y detailed like an Adams or Bradshaw Spider-Man. The background resembles the work he did when he did the series but is very tight in the illustration style.

That's a very astute point about the way Butler now draws backgrounds; thanks for the comment, Marcus!

Beautiful piece. I am a great fan of Butler's work and this doesn't dissapoint. Might be why I find myself going after the Silver Sable pages.

Cool Spidey commission! Of course a lot of us remember Steven Butler from his work on Silver Sable and Web of Spider-Man! How awesome that you commissioned him to do this piece! I love the end result--Very nice depth created to separate Spidey from the Daily Bugle behind him. Gorgeous piece!

Thank you for the comment, Bill! Steven did a very nice job on this commission and as you note, he created the illusion of depth very nicely. Your Spider-Man collection is a constant source of wonder to me and other collectors.

Straight classic Spidey, swingin' right atcha, by one of our Spidey artists of the '90s! So much poured in to this 11x17 board at a killer price! I'm lucky to have nabbed a Spidey-centric commission as well. Congrats A K!

Beautiful commission, A K! There's gorgeous hatching all over this, and I'm -very- fond of the strong Romita, Sr. style of the mask. It must look absolutely -GREAT- in 11x17! Congrats on such a strong piece, at such a great price; it's awesome to have a Spidey from one of your favorites when you were younger!
