Description

Had a great conversation with David Wenzel and his lovely wife at Terrificon. And then I found this beauty and I couldn't pass it up.

The last light of the last day of summer to show the keyhole to the treasure of the Dwarves...and Smaug. You can almost hear the small bird slamming the nut shell against the rock, drawing Bilbo's eye back to the keyhole.

The colors are terrific and significant fantasy illustration for this legendary story. Wenzel's craftsmanship rises to the occassion and serious fans cherish this graphic novel version because it is as timeless as the novel.

When this came out, I couldn't believe that this was done by the same David Wenzel who had previously worked on some Marvel books during the late 70's. This is easilly the best thing he ever did, at least up until that point.

Only thing better than picking up a beautiful page is meeting a gem like Wenzel that makes the whole experience 100x greater.
